The Shire of Dernehealde is the Athens County (Athens), Ohio chapter of the Society for Creative Anachronism, Inc. We are centered on the campus of Ohio University. The SCA is an international organization dedicated to researching and re-creating the arts and skills of pre-17th-century predominantly Western Europe. This is accomplished in part by events where members can participate in a variety of activities – from tournaments, arts exhibits, classes, workshops, dancing, feasts, and more. Much of the experimentation and camaraderie is accomplished at our regular weekly meetings.
The following professional video gives a glimpse at the allure the SCA has for so many of us.
Our weekly meetings, on campus, will start Tuesday, August 29, 2017 at 8pm in Grover E304. We have the room reserved every Tuesday from 7 to 10 pm. **This is a different room than last semester.**
Sunday fight practices: Morton 201 from 1-5pm!
For craft nights we have Grover W125 reserved from 7-10pm every other Thursday, starting Thursday, September 7, 2017.
Thank you, Ashley, for securing our rooms for our various activities.
With the close of the semester, The Shire of Dernehealde’s weekly meetings will take a brief break. This means is there is no meeting on April 25th as this is Finals Week.
Meetings will resume on May 2nd at Richland Ave Park. The meeting time will stay the same – starting at 8:00pm.
Sunday Fighter Practices will start up again on May 7th – due to Finals Week, followed by Blackstone Raids (April 27th – 30th). Fighter practice will then be on alternating Sundays.
There will be Fighter Practices on Tuesday nights (starting May 2nd) prior to the weekly meetings. This means Tuesday Fighter Practice starts at 6:00pm, break for the meeting, and then resume after the business meeting concludes, if fighters still wish.
