The Shire of Dernehealde is the Athens County (Athens), Ohio chapter of the Society for Creative Anachronism, Inc. We are centered on the campus of Ohio University. The SCA is an international organization dedicated to researching and re-creating the arts and skills of pre-17th-century predominantly Western Europe. This is accomplished in part by events where members can participate in a variety of activities – from tournaments, arts exhibits, classes, workshops, dancing, feasts, and more. Much of the experimentation and camaraderie is accomplished at our regular weekly meetings.
The following professional video gives a glimpse at the allure the SCA has for so many of us.
Although it doesn’t quite feel like it, Spring is just around the corner (okay, maybe a bit down the street, past the dark Winter alley, then around the corner). Classes have resumed, and this means so too have Dernehealde’s meetings and fighter practices!
Thanks to the tireless efforts of Nathan, we have rooms for the semester activities. And, BONUS! They’re on the first floor!
