The Shire of Dernehealde is the Athens County (Athens), Ohio chapter of the Society for Creative Anachronism, Inc. We are centered on the campus of Ohio University. The SCA is an international organization dedicated to researching and re-creating the arts and skills of pre-17th-century predominantly Western Europe. This is accomplished in part by events where members can participate in a variety of activities – from tournaments, arts exhibits, classes, workshops, dancing, feasts, and more. Much of the experimentation and camaraderie is accomplished at our regular weekly meetings.
The following professional video gives a glimpse at the allure the SCA has for so many of us.
The May issue of our newsletter The Derneherald is now up. You can view it online, or download it. It is in PDF format, so you will need a PDF viewer like Foxit or Adobe Acrobat Reader. Both of these programs are free for personal use.

Come join Dernehealde’s Potluck and Middle Marches Baronial Quarterly Meeting, featuring fighting, classes, and food!
Where: Richland Avenue Park, Dairy Ln, Athens, Ohio 45701
When: July 8, 2018 1:00pm – 5:00pm
This year will be a potluck. Dernehealde will bring the grill, and you can bring whatever meats/food you’d like to have. (We ask, so not everyone brings the same thing, you please post what dish/items you’ll be bringing if you’re able to bring something Facebook event page).
Though the event is scheduled for 1-5 PM, we have reserved the park’s shelter house for the entire day and there’s AMPLE space for day-shades/day-camps and you’re free to show a bit early and stay as long as you’d like for the day. It is suggested you bring chairs. Picnic table space is limited.
If you’d like to teach a class, please contact Dernehealde’s Mistress of Arts & Sciences, CJ White
